FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nashville, Tennessee — September 11, 2025 — As the leader of Nashville’s Republican Party, I feel compelled to speak not as a partisan, but as a fellow human being in this moment of profound sorrow. The tragic murder of Charlie Kirk forces us all to pause and confront an uncomfortable truth about our society.
This is not a time for political posturing or finger-pointing. Instead, let us turn inward and ask ourselves: How have we arrived at a place where violence becomes an acceptable response to differing views? Where the life of someone like Charlie, targeted simply for his conservative convictions, can be taken without remorse by some? It speaks to a deeper fracture in our souls, one that has allowed division to fester into hatred, and disagreement to escalate into destruction.
In this spirit of reflection, I urge each of us to examine our own hearts. Have we contributed, even subtly, to the toxic rhetoric that dehumanizes those we disagree with? Have we forgotten the shared humanity that binds us as Americans, as neighbors, as people of faith or conscience?
My hope is that Charlie’s tragic death is a catalyst for reconciliation. Let us commit to fostering dialogue over discord, empathy over enmity, and peace over polarization. Reach out to someone across the aisle today; listen without judgment; build bridges where walls have been erected. In honoring Charlie's memory, may we rediscover the grace to heal and move forward together, guided by the better angels of our nature.
We need to turn away from the path we are on towards division and strife, but where can we turn? For myself, I know of only one Person who can effectively do this work, the Lord Jesus Christ. If you truly seek peace and reconciliation, you will cross His path. I pray that you will have courage enough to place yourself into the hands of the living God, He is our only real hope.
Please join me in praying for Erika Kirk, and her two children, and extended family. Pray for the United States of America, for Nashville, and for your neighbors. May we all find a measure of grace and mercy as we move forward.
Thank you,
Jason Weakley
Chairman, Davidson County Republican Party
